Program Notes

Protests in the streets, reminiscent of those of the civil rights era, bring promise of a reawakening of the civil rights movement. It is high time for this country to recognize and be honest about both its past and present – and make Martin Luther King’s dream come true at last.

This music is based on fragments of the melodies that have rattled about in my brain for the past few weeks. A change is gonna come, we shall not be moved, which side are you on, never turn back, we shall overcome, oh freedom…
